Sonam Kapoor has already started shooting for Neerja the biopic on the Pan Am air-hostess Neerja Bhanot. And now, Shabana Azmi has been signed on to play Sonam’s mother in the film, which marks the debut of Atul Kasbekar as a producer.
The film is the story of the young air hostess who gave up her own life while trying to save the passengers on board the Pan Am flight, which was hijacked in Karachi in 1986.
Director Ram Madhvani was on the lookout for a senior actress who would fit the bill of Sonams mother. He finally zeroed in on Shabana, who was happy to be a part of the inspiring story. The mother-daughter scenes are believed to be the high point of the movie.
